Following the successful completion of earlier phases, TP Landscaping were subsequently awarded the contract to carry out works at the heart of the new public realm as part of the wider regeneration of Coronation Square in Leyton. Working closely with Taylor Wimpey and other contractors, our team played a central role in transforming the Market Square into a modern, accessible and visually cohesive public space. These works were delivered under a tight programme.
One of the project’s core features was the installation of the paving, which now defines the character of the square. This durable, slip-resistant surfacing provides both practicality and visual appeal, seamlessly integrating with the surrounding architecture. The material choice was not only aesthetically pleasing but also contributes to the long-term sustainability and maintenance of the space.
Thoughtful arrangement of seating, soft landscaping, and pedestrian friendly paving creates a welcoming and accessible space for residents and visitors alike. This inviting layout is further enhanced by the use of diverse planting and natural materials, which soften the urban environment and promote biodiversity.
The water feature acts as a focal point, drawing people into the space and providing a calming sensory experience. Its gentle movement introduces sound and visual interest, enhancing the atmosphere of the square. Strategically placed near seating areas, it encourages social interaction. The feature also contributes to the site’s sustainable design by supporting rainwater management. A variety of paving slab sizes are used throughout the square, creating visual texture and helping define different zones within the space. Larger slabs guide key pedestrian routes, while smaller units mark gathering points. This thoughtful paving layout enhances way finding and breaks up the expanse of hard surfaces.
Planting across the square has been designed with biodiversity in mind, incorporating a mix of native and pollinator-friendly species. Shrubs, grasses, and trees are layered to provide a year-round habitat for wildlife. The planting softens the built environment and contributes to urban cooling and air quality. This green infrastructure helps to create a sustainable space. The completed Market Square has been exceptionally well received by the community. Residents now enjoy a safer, more attractive environment, while local businesses have benefited from increased footfall and improved public accessibility. The project’s impact was further recognised when the scheme was awarded Sureset’s Installation of the Year, a testament to the quality of the workmanship and the collaborative effort behind it.
