The transformation of Elephant & Castle
Elephant & Castle in the London borough of Southwark is undergoing rapid transformation and regeneration.
In 2016, 17 new development projects commenced with a combined value of £3bn. The work includes 5,000 new homes, 450,000 square feet of retail space and an integrated transport hub. Total Protection Group were delighted to be awarded surfacing works for various amenities including cycle paths, private access ways and public footpaths.
Addagrip’s BBA approved Addaset Resin Bound Gravel was selected in various 6mm colour blends for the job. Rhine Gold was used on the cycle ways, Lucerne Silver for the pathways adjacent to the Victory Infant and Junior School, and Scandinavian Pearl for pedestrian access to properties at Trafalgar Place. In total, more than 450 square metres of surface were laid over the course of 8 non-consecutive days.
The finished surfaces are a durable yet elegant feature of this nebulous development project. The various paths installed will allow locals and visitors to explore and enjoy a completely transformed region of the capital. Our clients were thrilled with the results and, as the regeneration project is scheduled to run beyond 2031, we are hopeful of securing further contracts as works continue in the area.
