Dover Western Docks Revival
The Dover Western Docks Revival is one of the largest port development projects in the UK. Alongside Boksalis Westminster, VolkerStevin began work on the scheme in January 2017.
The £250m job included the creation of two deep water berths, the design and build of quay walls, a new marina pier, Wellington Dock navigation channel and capital dredging work.
The Total Protection Group was delighted to be approached to undertake the surfacing of the marina pier. Surfaces were required to be highly durable, low maintenance and complementary to the natural, yet striking design of the development. Furthermore, we would have to account for a certain degree of movement in the pier without compromising the integrity of the finish. Exposed conditions and unstable winter weather were an added challenge
Addagripp’s BBA approved 6mm Tuscan Pebble Terrabound product was selected for application to an area of almost 3000 square metres. To account for movement in the giant structure, we installed intricate expansion joint detail. Though awful conditions forced work to stop temporarily when the seasons changed, we were able to complete the surfacing and expansion point detail in just 32 days to the highest possible standard.
Our client was delighted with both the finish quality of the Resin Bound Gravel and with the resolve and agility we displayed to get the job done despite numerous setbacks. The seamless Tuscan Pebble Terrabound surface provides an elegant yet functional solution which complements the pier and surrounding environment perfectly.
