Podium gardens at Britannia Music site
As part of the London Borough of Redbridge’s regeneration scheme for Ilford, our client Durkan is working to bring this new landmark residential development to completion.
The project is the transformation of a dormant brownfield site to new uses, and will add much-needed housing to the emerging borough.
When complete, this scheme will comprise 354 new residential apartments in a range of blocks, including one stand-out 24-storey tower. We were excited to be awarded the hard and soft landscaping contract for the project, as the works include the creation of rooftop podium gardens. The multi-level works take place across two first-floor podiums and the surrounding ground level. We first installed conservation concrete paving on pedestal supports and concrete setts. Resin-bound surfacing, and surfacing for external play areas for children are also to be installed. Our craftsmen also created a bespoke timber pergola, wood benches and play equipment, which the residents can enjoy along with the planting scheme.
Britannia Music Site is a pivotal project within Ilford’s wider town centre regeneration. It draws on its heritage as the mailing house for Britannia Music Club, and previously to that, Britannia Works, the famous Ilford photography brand. A very interesting project to be involved in, and great to be part of bringing the disused space back into action.
